Intensive Care Unit (I.C.U.) is the medical specialty that provides, through specific pharmacological and technical means on one hand, the necessary conditions for surgery, perioperative care and other diagnostic/therapeutic procedures, and on the other hand, the indispensable support for the critical patient for the assessment and treatment of life-threatening acute organ dysfunction/injury.
Intensive care includes the diagnosis, prevention and treatment in the short, medium or long term of all acute deficiencies of vital functions. Specific treatment measures are aimed at patients who have life threaten conditions but whose prognosis is potentially favorable.
